Afternoon Tea and a Look Around Wentbridge House Hotel in Yorkshire

Tea – the answer to all life’s little problems. Afternoon tea – the way to win my heart. Ah I jest, it takes more than a delicious afternoon tea at Wentbridge House Hotel to persuade this blogger to write a glowing report on their wedding offering. Now throw in a glass of fizz ……………… :)

Regular readers will hopefully know that I only blog about wedding industry suppliers that I truly believe to be great quality, offer excellent customer service or are somewhat unusual/quirky. New readers take note – I have my own rule book of blog and I stick to it religiously.

So what happened when I paid a visit to Wentbridge House Hotel to sample their wares? I enjoyed every finger-licking morsel! Loose leaf Yorkshire tea, dainty sandwiches and delicate cakes that tasted every bit as good as they looked, everything is made from scratch on the premises. Impressive in this age of ‘corner cutting’.

Set in over 20 acres of breathtaking gardens and grounds, Wentbridge House has a huge amount to offer couples who are looking to create a country house wedding that is uniquely ‘them’. With only one wedding booked per day there’s no need to share the spotlight. Looking for complete exclusivity? You can even hire the whole hotel and call it yours for the day.

Lashings of tea and cake must have brought out the loopiness in me because I couldn’t resist a game of peek-a-boo.

If great food is one of your top wedding priorities then, with its Two AA Rosette award winning catering team, Wentbridge House Hotel ticks that box with aplomb (I can highly recommend their Sunday lunch). And, unlike a lot of venues, you are not held to a set menu. Each menu can be customised to your taste, you can even get creative and design your own.

I was given a peek at some of the bedrooms and I have to say this is definitely a hotel with a split personality. If you’re a lover of all things antique and Robert Thomas furniture then the older part of the building will be right up your street.

Fancy something more contemporary and air conditioned? You’ll fit right into the newer wing. One of the rooms even has its own Bose station for your Ipod.

This is what I felt like doing on the beds but I was on my best behaviour :)

Throughout the hotel the wonderful mix of styles continues with its very spacious, elegant reception rooms and its quirky bar/restaurant.

Two years ago when I married my mad-as-a-hatter hubby we seriously considered Wentbridge House Hotel for our venue. The only thing that concerned us was, due to ill health, some of our relatives were unable to travel from Wales to Yorkshire, so Wales it was.

We don’t regret the decision, we had an amazing day. But when we renew our vows who knows, so watch this space.

Wentbridge have a number of special offers on some dates so keep a close eye on their website if you’re after a bit of a bargain. If you would like to take an informal look at what they have to offer then they are hosting Yorkshire Day on the 1st August 2013. It’s a chance to celebrate all things Yorkshire and entry is free. Come along, I’ll be there x
